Judges' Bios:

Ann Marie Ely
I have been herding since the 80's with my smooth collie, Hawk.  We participated in the ASCA Trials and when AKC's Herding Program was developed, I competed in that program.  After Hawk was retired from herding, I became an AKC herding judge.  I have been the secretary for many specialties and herding trials as well as working most of the jobs associated with holding trials.  I really enjoy judging the National Specialties, as this is where you get to see the top dogs showcasing their breed's talent and ability.

Gérard Baudet's
Gérard Baudet has been around dogs during his whole life.  As a kid, he grew up with mixed breeds, and, to make pocket money in the summer, he used to borrow the neighbor's sheltie mix to move the dairy cows at the end of the day from the pasture back to the dairy farm.
Gérard acquired his first pure-bred dog in 1982, a Briard, when he settled in Providence, Rhode Island, and quickly he started showing in conformation at AKC events.  He got involved with his National Club, serving two terms as President, also serving on the breed standard committee, and as the national specialty chair.  At the local level, Gérard is a member of the Rhode Island Kennel Club, where he has served as the Obedience chair for 18 years, and a member of the Obedience Training Club of Rhode Island, where he has served as the Obedience chair for 9 years.  He has also been a charter member of the Northeast Stockdog Association, serving as the President for 11 years, serving as the trial chair at numerous events, and serving as the trial Secretary many times.  He has been the AKC Delegate for the Rhode Island Kennel Club since 2001, and he has been on the AKC Standing Committee on Herding, Earthdog, and Coursing Events since its inception, serving as the chair in its first 4 years.  He is also currently chairing the AKC Herding Advisory Committee.  In his "other life," Gérard is a professor at the University of Rhode Island, teaching computer science.  Gérard has been involved in the AKC herding program since the beginning.  He has shown most of his Briards in herding, earning HX titles on Course A and on Course C.  To date, his dogs have earned 4 Herding Championships, including 3 generations of homebred Dual Champions.  Gérard has judged AKC events since 1995 all over the United States, and, to date, he has received the honor of judging National Specialties for 12 Parent Clubs.
